Ok. I admit it. There are days (like today) when the wintery wind is whipping through the farm, the overcast sky is setting a gloomy tone, the seemingly eternal drizzle is soaking my farm coat, and I’m hauling bucket loads of feed to the various animals who call our farm home. All this is happening at a time of morning I’d prefer to be nestled into the warm cozy sheets of my bed. These are the times, as I kick off my mud caked boots, I find myself asking that very question, “Why in the world are we doing this?” ... So why do we do it?
The answer is actually a pretty simple one. It’s because from our perspective here on Grounding Roots Farm, the benefits and joys far outweigh the nuisances and challenges homesteading and farming bring. I’m hopeful I can find the eloquence to share, in an in depth-way with you, just what those varying reasons are. There are six primarily that really stand out and I'd be willing to bet that others who share this lifestyle will nod their head in agreement as they read them. I see them as follows:

· Sustainability
· Self-sufficiency
· Connection to the land
· Health
· Cost-savings
· Personal fulfillment
Maybe you have a similar yearning for the homestead lifestyle. Maybe you’re like us and early on in the journey, discovering a lot about this way of life and yourself at the same time. Maybe you’re an experienced homesteader/farmer who can relate to the myriad of challenges and joys and have some sage advice to share with us newbies. Or maybe you just enjoy the humble ramblings of an endlessly curious farmer with a wholly entertaining farm family and want to tag along on our journey. Whatever the reason you’re reading this, I hope you follow along because we sure love having you.
Stay tuned!
